"Manyo-ori" (Manyo Weave) booklet/leaflet
Pattern:
A detailed and intricate landscape is woven into the fabric. It depicts pavilion-like buildings, trees resembling pine and cherry blossoms, a waterside scene, and birds such as cranes and mandarin ducks (oshidori). The pattern is exceptionally realistic, resembling a beautiful painting.
Furthermore, a variety of subdued colors are applied, with shades like dusty blue-green, beige, brown, and rust-orange skillfully combined to create a sense of depth and elegance.
-From the "Manyo-ori" booklet-
It recounts an anecdote where Satomura Joha, a prominent disciple of (Sen no) Rikyu, presented a kinran donsu-kire (gold brocade and damask textile) he owned to the Konoe family.
Additionally, it explains that "Manyo-ori" was created by fusing this "Joha-ori" (Joha weave) with the exquisite katazome (stencil dyeing) techniques of sarasa (printed cotton/chintz), resulting in a new design and textile. Its characteristics and high versatility are described as "lightweight and wrinkle-resistant," "the ultimate stylish obi," and "Manyo-ori obi fabrics match beautifully with anything."
This indicates that this obi is a refined piece, created with modern sensibility based on traditional techniques with a historical background.
