Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Scott McKenzie met John Phillips, who would later become a member of the Mamas & the Papas, and they deepened their friendship by working in the same band. In May 1967, he released the song written by John Phillips, “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)” as a single, which reached No. 4 in the US. This song became a favorite song at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 during the ‘Summer of Love’ movement, and Scott McKenzie himself participated in the concert. In the 1980s, when the Mamas & the Papas reformed, he participated in many package tours and events as a member, but unfortunately he passed away in 2012. The fifth song, <NO, NO, NO, NO, NO>, is an English cover of Michel Polnareff's work <No Non Doll>.

Barry McGuire, who was the lead vocalist of the New Christy Minstrels, had a hit in Japan with the group's "Green Green", but Barry's best-selling solo song, and his worldwide hit, was "Eve of Destruction". He was born in Oklahoma, but later moved to California. The Mamas & the Papas (before their debut) were in charge of the chorus for his second solo album [THIS PRECIOUS TIME] released in 1966, and he recommended that they "release the song "California Dreamin'" by John Phillips, which became a big hit. The Mamas & the Papas' chorus is also involved in 7 of the 12 songs on the second album, and the second track, "California Dreamin'," is a version that was released before the original. However, the harmony of the four Mamas & Papas is several levels better than his husky voice, so the original release was the right choice. In addition, the same take by the session band "Wrecking Crew" is used for both the Mamas & the Papas version and the Barry McGuire version on this CD. This CD contains two albums, the second [THIS PRECIOUS TIME (1966)] and the third [THE WORLD'S LAST PRIVATE CITIZEN (1967)], but like the first album, it is dominated by works by Dylan and P.F. Sloane.
