① is,
"For me, the summer of '67 was Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of a Shadow." I remember having the single on the turntable all summer. That's why I couldn't help but feel angry at the insensitive fans who clapped along to this song when they came to Japan in '72.
First of all, their debut album "A Whiter Shade of a Shadow ... "Shine on Brightly" (1968/US #34), which was made over time to replace the hastily made previous work, is already a work that exudes dignity. No. 13 was a minor hit in Japan. The best piece is the 17-minute suite No. 17, which can be said to be the precursor to rock opera. -Omitted- Not only is it superficially double keyboard, but the elements of American roots music can be seen lurking behind the European image.
"A Salty Dog" (1969/UK #27/US #32), which is highly regarded as a masterpiece, has a mix of more British and American elements. With the stronger influence of producer Matthew Fisher and Robin Trower, the musical breadth has expanded, and it's a work that you'll get hooked on now.
After Fisher left the band, the four members of the former Paramounts came together and produced "Home" (1970/No. 49 in the UK/No. 34 in the US), which was produced by Chris Thomas. Trower turns into Jimi Hendrix. It starts with Hard Rock 10, but many of the songs have a theme of death, giving it a dark impression. From the liner notes of Haruo Miyake in the May 2001 issue of Record Collectors. As some of you may know, in 1967 when "A Blue Shadow" became a hit, there were still many mono recordings, and this masterpiece was released as a single in mono at <4:01>, but this 30th anniversary anthology CD includes valuable takes such as the long stereo version at <6:04> and the instrumental version (mono) at <5:47> on SIDE 3 (image 7). The UK Westside label that released this CD released a CD called [Pandora's Box] in 1999, which contained 10 stereo tracks, but this is probably the first time that some of the stereo tracks from the first album included in this work have been released. The stereo version of the second single, "Hamburger," may also be released for the first time. As an aside, Gary Brooker's voice is a Steve Winwood-type voice that stands out in ballad singing.

"The fifth album, [Broken Barricades] (1971/UK 42nd/US 32nd), is a hard rock work that is an extension of the previous album, Home, and features the guitar of Robin Trower, who left the band after this and went on to great success as a solo artist. The highlights are "Simple Sister," which was also released as a single, and "Song for a Dreamer," which is Robin's homage to Jimi Hendrix and is full of emotion, but it is also a declaration of his departure. I'm glad that the jacket is the original perforated gatefold (Image 4). This is the first CD in Japan. '
From the liner notes of Record Collectors, April 2003 issue, by Haruo Miyake
They had a worldwide hit with "A Whiter Shade of a ... After this album, guitarist Robin Trower left the band, and went on to solo careers with guitar work that could be called the second coming (?) or successor (?) of Jimi Hendrix. Of the eight songs on the album, three of Trower's songs are hard rock, far removed from the keyboard-centered classical image of Procol Harum, and we can guess why he left the band. Rock fans will know about his subsequent activities. This original LP has been faithfully reproduced, with the four faces on the inside of the gatefold being visible from the outside of the jacket (Image 4).

The Paramounts are a four-piece R&B band formed in Essex, England in 1959. They were the predecessor band to Procol Harum and were active until 1966. In 1967, Procol Harum reunited after the hit "A Whiter Shade of Blue", and recorded their 4th album "Home" and 5th album "Broken Barricade" with the same members as Paramounts. It is often said that this is "Procol Harum's...", but if you listen to this CD, you will realize that the R&B played by Gary Brooker's mellow vocals and piano, and Robin Trower's guitar, is at a level that surpasses other groups of the same period. This CD was released by Edsel Records in France, but for some reason, Paramounts' recordings are rarely seen even in the UK, making it a rare record.
